Young Professionals Annual Gala
Event: ACEC-MB Young Professionals Committee 2nd Annual Gala Dinner: Building a Sustainable Future: The Role of the Engineer
Description:
Join us for the 2nd Annual Gala Dinner of ACEC-MB's Young Professionals' Committee! The evening will begin with networking over drinks and hors d'oeuvres, followed by a dinner and presentation on Sustainability and Engineering by Dr. John Boyd, P. Eng., Ph.D.
Dr. Boyd has been in the consulting engineering business for more than 35 years with Golder Associates, with 20 in senior management roles. John was President of the Canadian operating company, VP Operations of the Golder Group, and a Director in several of the Boards of companies in the group. John was also a Director and subsequently Chairman of the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies - Canada. He is also a former member of the Executive Committee of FIDIC (International Federation of Consulting Engineers - the international organization representing the consulting engineering industry) and is currently its Past President and the Chair of the Climate Change task force of the Federation.
John has been the Executive Committee representative responsible for the FIDIC Committee on Sustainable Development. This group was given the task of developing a system of sustainability indicators for engineering project use on behalf of the Federation's 84 member countries. The resulting FIDIC Project Sustainability Management system (PSM) is unique in providing a practical approach that maintains a traceable link to Agenda 21, the agreed world-wide basis for sustainability adopted by over 140 countries.
As the world seeks to create a more sustainable future, engineers will be at the forefront of this change in direction. Engineers must regain their role as trusted advisor, helping our clients incorporate sustainability into their projects in cost effective and innovative ways. The challenges that lay ahead are also our greatest opportunities!
Don't miss this excellent opportunity to build networks with young professionals and possible mentors, as well as learn about an increasingly important topic for the Consulting Engineering Business. All Young Professionals and their managers are encouraged to attend!
A Young Professional is any engineer, geoscientist, or engineering or geosciences technologist or technician with up to ten years experience in their applicable field.
